The Legacy Leadership Framework
A new leadership formula for executives and professionals
Let’s talk about building trust and asking the right questions — of yourself, and of others. When meeting someone new in a business context, the answer to “Why you?” will be your best building block. Because it leads the most powerful thing in leadership — a story.
Here are some ways I ask “Why you?”
Why did you choose this work?
What is something you can’t stop thinking about?
What about your personal experience led you to where you are now?
These questions lead to curiosity, but they also lead to someone sharing something in a form of a story, which always leads to deeper connection. To make every person become a leader in their role, I created a unique storytelling model called Legacy Leadership!
The Legacy Leadership storytelling framework is based on the Legacy Magic framework for founders.
My journey is unique because I’m living my Legacy Magic — something only I could create based on my lived and personal experiences. This framework was my formula for figuring out my business's value proposition, which eventually evolved into being called The EQ of Wealth.
Legacy Leadership isn’t just for founders — more traditional roles like executives and professionals can benefit hugely.
I recently realized that a major opportunity for EQ of Wealth training lies with individuals who were both hired for their traditional financial or philanthropic acumen — their IQ — and people who truly thrive in these positions because combine IQ with high emotional intelligence — their EQ — especially when it comes to money. Money EQ, or Wealth EQ addresses how wealth affects families and relationships, and trains you to succeed in your unique role.
If you’re in a traditional role, you’re still answering “Why you?” to build trust.
I modified the Legacy Magic framework for anyone who isn’t a founder. It’s called it Legacy Leadership. It’s pretty much the same framework, but without the “Potential” a.k.a. more entrepreneurial piece. For when you’re part of a company — not creating one.
For those working within a company, here’s how to harness Legacy Leadership Framework:
Personal: Tell a heartfelt or honest story from your life.
If you’re in a traditional role, it just has to be a personal story that demonstrates a quality of character that makes you great at your job or why you’re interested in the topic. It doesn’t have to be “THE” story. But tell “A” story! We remember stories far more than facts. Stories build human connection and tug at heartstrings and emotions. They offers insight into who you are, which is one filter to “why I should I trust you?” I tell my personal story every time I meet someone.
Professional: Tell a story about your expertise.
Earn trust by demonstrating that you have the chops. These are the hard skills that make you well-suited for the role you’re in. Welcome to your resume!
Connect the dots: Help your listener understand how your personal and your professional parts add up to an ideal whole — for them, the project, or whatever you are leading.
“Connecting the dots” is simply summarizing, saying, “because of my life experience and my hard skills, I’m in this role and it’s a perfect fit for me!” Or however you would like to frame it.
With the blend of head and heart, you’ll earn trust and LEad like never before.
You’re already trustworthy — now it’s just putting the pieces together.
